Personal Information
A veteran driver who just celebrated his 25th anniversary as a chuckwagon driver, Mark is the son of chuckwagon legend Kelly Sutherland. 2017 saw Mark post 18 top ten runs including 2 first place runs and 5 runs that also cracked the top five. Top ten overall aggregate finishes at the Grande Prairie Stompede and Guy Weadick Days were his best of the year. Mark is a former champion of the WPCA Pro Tour Championship in Strathmore in 2010, Guy Weadick Days in High River in 2016, and the Ashley Richards Memorial Chuckwagon Races in Saskatoon in 2015. He was honored with the WPCA's Chuckwagon Person of the Year in 2011, won the Calgary Stampede's Orville Strandquist Award for Top Rookie Driver in 1996, is a two–time winner of the Calgary Stampede's Safe Drive Award for Least Penalized Driver, on the WPCA Clean Drive Award in 2009, and had a horse named to the WPCA's Equine Outfit of Excellence in 2011. Mark has qualified for the GMC Rangeland Derby’s “Semi-Final Saturday” three times and the Calgary Stampede’s championship final once in 2009. Known as the “High Tech Redneck,” for his use of Global Positioning System (GPS) technology as a tool for chuckwagon training, Mark also hosts his own annual charity poker tournament. Mark and his wife Dina, have two children - Kiera and outrider Dayton, - and one grandchild, and make their home near Dewinton, Alberta.
