Buddy Bensmiller is a chuckwagon driver who has carved out one of the greatest legacies in history. He is a 2-time World Champion Chuckwagon Driver, received the WPCA's prestigious Chuckwagon Person of the Year Award in 2000, and has won a record 4 WPCA Clean Drive Awards. Buddy is a 3-time Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Champion driver and a 3-time Calgary Stampede Aggregate winner. He received the Calgary Stampede's prestigious Guy Weadick Award in 1994, won 2 Calgary Stampede Safe Drive Awards for the Least Penalized Driver, and outrode for one Calgary Stampede winning outfit in 1981. 2009 saw Buddy become just the 2nd Canadian chuckwagon driver to be inducted into the Cheyenne Frontier Days Hall of Fame. He posted 9 top ten runs, including 1 run that cracked the top five. Buddy was an eight time CPCA Champion and won the Cheyenne Frontier Days a record 9 times. He has participated annually in EnCana’s WPCA/4-H Mentorship Program since 2007. Buddy is a second-generation wagon man, and now competes against his 3 sons on the WPCA Dodge Pro Tour. Buddy and his wife Darlene have four children - Lisa, David, Kurt, and Chance - and six grandchildren.
