Mother Nature was a little kinder to the city of Dawson Creek, British Columbia as night 2 of the Battle of the North was run under warmer temperatures and mostly clear skies on Saturday night at Mile “0” of the Alaska Highway. Tonight, it was reigning World Champion Kurt Bensmiller’s turn to cash the top cheque on the night with a run of 1:24.60 from barrel position number 2 in the final heat of the evening.
Bensmiller’s Trans Peace Construction outfit was the top wagon of the night by well over a full second over Dustin Gorst who placed second on the night. Chanse Vigen placed third, Layne MacGillivray was placed fourth and Logan Gorst filled out the top 5 wagons on the night.
With one run to go to determine the aggregate winner and Monday’s Championship final heat, Chanse Vigen’s Sundown Oilfield Services outfit is sitting in first place in the overall aggregate standings with a combined total time of 2:53.27. That’s a mere 2 one-hundredths of a second better than day money winner Kurt Bensmiller, with defending Battle of the North Champion Ross Knight in third and Doug Irvine making out the top four. Dustin Gorst is on the outside looking in in fifth place overall, 6 one-hundredths of a second out of a spot in Monday’s championship final.
The top driver in the aggregate after Sunday night will get the use of a 2019 GMC Truck. The top 4 drivers in the aggregate after Saturday’s run will go into the championship final heat where the winner will take home a big bonus cheque, and the 2019 Battle of the North Championship.
