The WPCA Pro Tour embarked on Mile “0” of the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek, British Columbia for opening night at the Battle of the North where John Walters came into this year’s event as the defending champion. Track conditions were a little sluggish on a hot summer evening, and when the races were complete it was “The Hound” Codey McCurrach who emerged with the fast time of the night with a 1:19.26.

From barrel number 2 in the 7th heat, McCurrach bested world points leader Kurt Bensmiller by just 14 one-hundredths of a second. Evan Salmond placed third, Doug Irvine was fourth and former 2-time Battle of the North Champion Luke Tournier rounded out the top five on the night.

The top driver in the aggregate after Saturday night will get the use of a 2018 GMC Truck. The top 4 drivers in the aggregate after Saturday’s run will go into the winner-take-all championship final heat where the winner will take home a big bonus cheque, and the 2018 Battle of the North Championship.

Night 2 of the Battle of the North from Dawson Creek, British Columbia can be heard live on Thursday, August 9, 2018 on WPCA Pro Tour LIVE at 9:30pm Eastern, 8:30pm Central, and 7:30pm Mountain time on Rural Radio Channel 147 on SiriusXM, Country 99 at 99.7 FM out of Bonnyville, and 96.5 CKFM out of Olds, Alberta.
