Late afternoon rains made for slightly off racetrack conditions, and there was a lot on the line Saturday night at the Ponoka Stampede, as it was the last chance for drivers to try to get into the top eight overall and qualify for “Semi-Final Sunday" and ultimately a spot in Monday’s TrailBlazer RV Centre’s $50,000.00 Tommy Dorchester Sudden Death Championship final heat.

When the night was complete, it was Vern Nolin and his Vold, Jones & Vold Auction Co. Ltd. Outfit, and along with outriders Brendan Nolin and David Bensmiller, who topped the overall aggregate with a four-run total of 5:08.43 and will drive off in a new 2018 GMC Truck as the Aggregate Winner at the 2018 Ponoka Stampede. He will be joined in the semi final round by Kurt Bensmiller, Cliff Cunninhgham, Jason Glass, Chanse Vigen, Evan Salmond, Kirk Sutherland and Troy Dorchester.  Mark Sutherland ended up in the crying hole, 9th place overall, and just missed the semi-final round by just 90 one-hundreds of a second.

The top 4 times from the two semi final heats on “Semi-Final Sunday” will qualify into the TrailBlazer RV Centre $50,000.00 Tommy Dorchester Sudden Death Championship final on Monday where the winner will take home the 2018 Ponoka Stampede Championship.

As far as day results are concerned, it was Vern Nolin who cashed the top cheque after posting the fastest time of the night with a 1:16.71. Evan Salmond placed second on the night; Chanse Vigen was third, with Rick Fraser and Troy Dorchester rounding out the top five on the night.

The Semi-Final Round of the Ponoka Stampede Championship can be heard on WPCA Pro Tour LIVE on Sunday night, July 1, 2018 at 9:00pm Eastern, 8:00pm Central, and 7:00pm Mountain time on Rural Radio Channel 147 on SiriusXM,  96.5 CKFM out of Olds, Alberta or on Country 99 at 99.7 FM out of Bonnyville, Alberta, or watch live stream on FloRodeo.com.
