Mother Nature has been very kind to the city of Dawson Creek, British Columbia as night 3 of the Battle of the North was run on Friday night at Mile “0” of the Alaska Highway. World points leader Kurt Bensmiller turn to cash the top cheque on the night with a run of 1:14.70 from barrel position number 4 in the final heat of the evening.

Bensmiller’s Trans Peace Construction outfit was the top wagon of the night by two-tenths of a second over former Ponoka Stampede Champion Roger Moore. Kurt Bensmiller’s #2 wagon placed third, and injured driver Mike Vigen’s outfit which again was driven by Chanse Vigen placed fourth even with two seconds in outrider penalties, and Darcy Flad filled out the top 5 wagons on the night.

After three runs, Mike Vigen’s Briar Ridge Stock Farms outfit, driven by his son Chanse Vigen, leads the overall aggregate standings with a combined total time of 3:45.44. That’s 1.68 seconds better than two-time Battle of the North Champion Rick Fraser, with Mitch Sutherland making out the top four. Chad Fike slipped out of the top four and sits fifth, but just 39 one-hundredths of a second out of of a spot in Sunday’s championship final. The top 4 drivers in the aggregate after Saturday’s run will go into the championship final heat where the winner will take home a big bonus cheque, and the 2017 Battle of the North Championship.
